Give an Easter Basket

Giving a gift is truly one of our greatest pleasures, isn’t it? We, as your Montreal Florist, just found the right Easter gift for you: Give an Easter Basket All it takes is a simple straw basket and a few goodies to go with it.

Well, we chose a decorative basket, a colourful spring plant, freshly cut tulips and most importantly: Chocolates! Who would not enjoy a delicious Easter bunny from "Chocolat Privilège", our favorite Montreal Chocolatier. For a final touch we adorn the gift with branches, ribbons and a few Easter eggs. Then we wrap it up in cellophane and off it goes on delivery with one of our charming drivers.

You can place your order right here ($35)

Easter Eggs In Montreal

Of all the symbols associated with Easter the egg, is the symbol of fertility and new life. And the tradition of using eggs has been associated with Easter for centuries. Different cultures have developed their own ways of decorating their Easter eggs.

The Armenians decorate their hollow eggs with pictures of Christ, the Virgin Mary, and other religious designs.

The Austrians decorate their eggs by first fastening ferns and tiny plants around them. After the eggs have been boiled and the plants have been removed they will reveal a striking white pattern.

The Germans hang their dyed and hollow eggs from shrubs and trees during the Easter Week.

The “Pysanki” egg is a masterpiece of skill and workmanship. Melted beeswax is applied to the freshly boiled egg. It is then dipped into successive baths of dye. After each dip wax is then painted over the area where the preceding color is to remain. Eventually a very complex pattern of lines and colors will be turning the egg into a work of art.

St. Patrick's Day 2008 in Montreal

Wearing of the Green Goes Global!
St. Patrick's Day is celebrated by people of all backgrounds not only in Montreal but also the rest of Canada and the United States. But before turning totally green on March 16/17 you should, at least, know a few facts about St Patrick’s Day:

Over forty million North Americans are able to trace their ancestry back to Ireland.

The First St. Patrick's Day parade took place not in Ireland, but in the United States. Irish soldiers serving in the English military marched through New York City on March 17, 1762.

The Shamrock, also called the "seamroy" by the Celts, was a sacred plant in ancient Ireland. It symbolizes the rebirth of spring.

"Erin Go Bragh" is a phrase heard often on St. Patrick's Day. It means: I Love Ireland Forever.

Gift of Gab! Irish tradition says that anyone who kisses the “blarney stone,” which is located near Cork, will be blessed with the Irish gift of the gab

Want to know more about that important Irish holiday? Then visit the St. Patrick’s Society of Montreal, founded 1843 at: http://www.stpatricksociety.com/

Want to turn green on March 16 &17? Then visit our flowershop at 1340 Notre-Dame Ouest, right in the heart of Griffintown. We’ll not only have the gift of the gab but we are also loaded up on shamrocks, Irish green carnations, corsages and boutonnieres. http://www.theflowerpot.com/en/ct.aspx?pid=16&cid=46&k=st-patricks-day

International Women’s Day 2008 in Montreal

Mark it on your calendar!

Saturday March 8, 2008 is International Women’s Day; a day to celebrate the accomplishments of women worldwide but also to acknowledge their struggles.

What will I, as the owner of The Flower Pot, do to further the awareness for the cause? We are planning to honor all women with flowers this week. I will go to Montreal’s weekly Flower Auction on Tuesday March 4, to secure a large quantity of tulips, my favorite spring bloom. And as of Tuesday we will offer bunches of tulips at very affordable prices. Specially after this very long and white winter all women need a break.
Looking for more than flowers? Then join
"The March 8th Committee of Women of Diverse Origins"
which is planning a demonstration under the banner:

Women Take Back Democratic Space!
