International Women’s Day 2007 in Montreal

Mark your calendars! Thursday, March 8, 2007 is International Women’s Day, a day to acknowledge the struggles and celebrate the accomplishments of women worldwide. The history of International Women’s Day dates back to 1911, when the first celebration was held in several European countries including Austria, Demark, Germany, and Switzerland. For nearly a century, March 8 has been designated as a day to mark the historical and contemporary achievements of women. See what’s going on for International Women’s Day 2007 in Montreal:

McCord Museum: "Ode to Women"

When: Thursday, March 8, 2007 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: McCord Museum, 690 Sherbrooke Street West, Montreal

Details: Free admission for women of all ages! The McCord Museum invites you to participate in the unveiling of a painting, a premier public reading in praise of women, and a tour of the exhibition Simply Montreal, which focuses on the history of women in the development of Montreal. McGill Center for Research and Teaching on Women: "The Dirt on Clean: Women's Health and Consumer Products"

When: Thursday, March 8, 2007 from 5:30 p.m to 7:30 p.m.

Where: 3487 Peel Street, Seminar Room, Montreal

Details: MCRTW invites you to join in an interactive information session about the harmful nature of everyday household cleaning and cosmetic products, many of which have been linked to cancer and reproductive harm. Discussion will be held on which products to avoid and which to use instead. You are also invited to bring samples of products that you are unsure about to find out if they are environmentally healthy and safe. Refreshments will be served.
