Each month is associated with a special flower, and for April, the daffodil takes the spotlight. Also known as Narcissus, this bulbing flower has over 25 varieties. Its most common variety is of a bright yellow color, making it the perfect flower to reflect the warm spring weather that April brings.
The celebration of daffodils in April extends beyond the garden. Each year in Montréal, the Canadian Cancer Society hosts the Daffodil Ball. The event is Canada’s largest cancer-related fundraiser and has raised over $13 million for the Canadian Cancer Society since its inauguration in 1994. This year, the Daffodil Ball will be held on April 26, 2007 at Montréal’s historic Windsor Station.
