Glad Glads

By now you all know that I have been exploring Europe all summer. One of the places I had the chance to visit was England. I was in London of course, but I also made a day trip to Stonehenge and a small village called Avebury, where I visited Avebury Manor and Garden. The picturesque English country house was built between 1555 and 1580, but the gardens are what were the most interesting.

Not only do they grow vegetables and herbs to sell, but they also have a wide selection of beautiful summer flowers, including gladioli. At The Flower Pot, gladioli or glads are all the rage right now, so much so that we've brought the price down from $29 to $19 for a lovely gladioli bouquet called Excalibur Lilies. We haven't given our bouquet that name for nothing.

Named for the shape of their leaves, gladioli - from the Latin word "gladius," means sword. The flower has a history that spans the globe, from Africa to the Mediterranean. Symbolizing strength and moral integrity, gladioli also represent infatuation, with a bouquet conveying to a recipient that they pierce the giver's heart with passion. Striking and colourful with towering stems, this August birth flower and 40th wedding anniversary flower evoke the drama of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. (teleflora.com)

Harvesting Sunflower Seeds

We're so far away from the real world here in the city, that most of us barely know what it's like to REALLY make your own food, growing, preparing, cooking, and everything.

The Flower Pot is dedicated to preparing you for every occasion, especially a crisis!

So, here's a little video from Youtube, teaching you how to harvest sunflower seeds and prepare them to be eaten. That way, if you're ever stuck in the middle of a sunflower field without any city food, you'll know what to do!

Thankfully you don't have to go all the way to the country to admire sunflowers. At The Flower Pot you can get your own bouquet of sunflowers and right now we have a great discount on our Sunny Flowers: 20% off! To get the discount, enter "sunflower" in the Coupon Code heading on the billing information page when you order online.
