The End of Summer in Montreal

The days are getting chilly; the nights are getting shorter. It's undeniable - summer is coming to an end. Although some may mourn the loss of warm summer nights, there are also some things to look foward to at the end of summer in Montreal.

The Montreal World Film Festival began on August 23, 2007 and runs up until September 3, 2007. Their "Cinema Under the Stars" programming offers free movies outside Places des Arts. Before heading to a great show, offer our Film Festival Chocolates + Sparkling Ice Cider to your special date.

Although the summer is ending, some flowers are just starting to come into season. Gladioli, the flower for the month of August, is a late-summer flower that is in perfect bloom. Send a bouquet of late-summer flowers to celebrate the end of summer. After all, it only comes around once a year!

A Breath of Fresh Air

Out of sight out of mind? Not when it comes to harmful toxins in our indoor air. Just because you can’t see formaldehyde and benzene, doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be concerned. After the energy crisis in the 1970s, we became obsessed with insulating our homes and offices to conserve heat and energy. What we didn’t realize is that it also helped to trap harmful toxins indoors, increasing their concentration in the air we breathe.

The NASA Clear Air Study released its results after two years of grueling research. By sealing plants in a Plexiglas chamber and injecting various chemicals, NASA scientists found that certain plants actually purify our indoor air. Philodendron (Spider Plant) and Golden Pothos were the most effective in removing formaldehyde, while gerberas effectively removed benzene from the air. Dracaena Marginata and Spathiphyllum (Peace Lily) also performed very well in the study.

At The Flower Pot, we offer a wide variety of green and flowering plants to help purify the air in your Montreal home or office. Our green plants will provide a breath of fresh air to boost performance and productivity in the work place – and they’re nice to look at, too!
